Chadwick becomes the third Rice player from this past season’s roster to elect to transfer.

“David has expressed his desire to transfer in hopes of gaining more playing time at another institution,” Braun said in a statement. “He has been a valuable member of our team over the past two years. I wish him success in achieving his goals.”

Chadwick played in 30 games last season, averaging 1.5 points and 0.9 rebounds.

“After not receiving as much playing time as I had hoped during my first two years, I have decided to pursue my basketball career elsewhere,” Chadwick said in a statement. “I am thankful to all my coaches and teammates and the memories I have with them. I will forever appreciate my experiences at a wonderful institution like Rice.”

Point guard Dylan Ennis and forward Jarelle Reischel said last month they plan to transfer to schools closer to home.

Rice went 19-16 this season, the program’s first winning season since 2005, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament.

With the departures and graduation of four seniors, the Owls currently have seven players on the roster.

The national signing period begins Wednesday.
